Celestial

As anyone who halfway knows me well, they know I am a sucker for anything celestial:  the stars, the moon, planets, the sun, Hubble deep space photographs . . . and the list goes on.  Sometimes I feel my head is in the stars as I wonder and contemplate the majesty of "out there".  This all started when I was a little kid when Grandpop took me out into the dark Austin skies (back in the days when the sky was dark there!) and started teaching me about constellations and meteor showers and moon phases.  Even though Grandpop has been gone for close to 50 years, I still hold dear what he taught me.

Last night I walked out and gave the sky a good scrutiny, as I always do.  Scorpius inches its way higher in the sky earlier each night.  Orion, with Betelgeuse as the hunter's right shoulder, is nowhere to be seen when I'm usually stargazing.  I will welcome him back as the seasons change.  The Big Dipper (Ursa Major) slowly rotates as it points out Polaris in Ursa Minor.  And if there is a lunar eclipse or a meteor shower, I'm there waiting!

It is with all of this in mind that I curated a "Celestial" Thursday night and decided to blog about it.  Some of the choices are in your face celestial, but some are more subtle.  I hope you enjoy the wide ranging celestial choices!

I just love these brass and sterling star earrings from Lynda of WestWindCreations.  In fact I bought a pair almost 2 years ago and they are a "go to" pair - am wearing them as I type this!

These blue and ivory lampwork beads remind me of deep space photos from Hubble - maybe an asteroid belt circling a giant planet?  The lampies were created by Susan of NewCreationBeads

Lovely night sky inspired brass crescent moon and stars embossed disc earrings.  Jessica of JessicaKlaarenJewelry then paired the discs with faceted deep sapphire blue glass beads.

Love the rustic look to the hand painted wooden sun discs used in these earrings by Mary of PrettyGonzo.   Swarovski crystals, Czech glass and handmade spirals finish the earrings.

A whimsical Kay Nielsen lithograph that Karen of LePetitPoulailler gleaned from a damaged 1893 reference book on children's illustrators.  The originals were part of a 1914 volume of "East of the Sun and West of the Moon"

Craters and maria can be seen in this wondrous photograph of a full moon in a clear night sky over Utah.  The photograph was taken by Tom of Best-Images-of-Mother-Earth

Anna of CraftsofthePast had forged this six-pointed starry bronze pendant.  The impression was actually taken from an antique pressed glass sugar bowl that was given to her as a wedding present!

I have used these cobalt blue and fine silver lampwork beads from Charlotte of Covergirlbeads.  The fine silver against the cobalt remind me of strs, meteorites and and comets whizzing through space.

And lastly, I'm sharing one of my own sunny designs, called "Ablaze", created with a hand carved bone sun, Malaysian "jade" beads and Swarovski crystals.  The necklace can be found in my ShadowDogDesigns studio.

You can find all these beauties, and a few more, in my "Celestial" collection.  I hope you'll stop by and take a look!

As always, any comment left always makes my day.  And any promotion day is always gladly appreciated by all the artists featured.  Thanks!
