Last month, as I was browsing through ArtFire studios, I noticed a skull bandana for a dog. Now, I'm not one to dress up our dogs, especially after putting foam reindeer horns on dearly departed Pavlov and seeing how embarrassed he was. I swore I would never "dress" up a dog again. But a bandana here and there has been worn and the dogs haven't been the worse for wear. I ordered our big, four-footed boy, Seamus, the skull bandana shown below to wear as Dia de los Muertos approached. We are all into Day of the Dead here in the Borderlands and I figured Seamus wouldn't mind joining in the festivities!
Black and white skull over-the-collar dog bandana by Donna of SewAmazin
The bandana was handmade by Donna of SewAmazin here on ArtFire. She sews a wide variety of pet and animal related items, from bandanas and scrunchie neck ruffles to cell phone wristlets and owl-themed sewing kits. The bandana that Seamus is wearing (even as as I type this) is an over-the-collar bandana. To wear the bandana, you simply thread the dog's collar through the casing at the top and then put on the collar. The bandana can be worn on top (my favorite) or in front. It stays put until you take it off. An ingenious design that works so well! It's lined and made of quilt weight cotton. The bandana survived doggie daycare today with all the resulting romping, chasing and wrassling - although it is not quite as clean now as you see in the photo below. It will be washed tonight.
Seamus looking very handsome in his skull bandana that is a bit tilted to the side, adding a jaunty look to the boy!
Seamus peering over the back gate. You can see how the collar threads through the black casing for stability.
Seamus loves looking over the back wall into the arroyo. Here you get a good shot of the fun bandana!
I was browsing through Donna's SewAmazin studio just today . . . . and a couple of other holiday themed bandanas caught my eye. Maybe these are in Seamus' future? And just when will GQ call?
Donna's own Penny, a Wauzer, modeling an autumn maple leaves bandana. Of course, Seamus will need a much larger size than the one sweet Penny is modeling.
And since DH and I have more than a bit of Scots blood running through our veins, I'm always attracted to red plaid. Even though Seamus is mostly Catahoula, a breed developed in the bayous of Louisiana, I think he'll be quite handsome in a festive plaid bandana for Christmas wear.
Seamus and I are glad you stopped by. And we both hope you stop by Donna's SewAmazin studio to browse her dog and cat accessories and other fun items!
If you want to make Seamus' and my day, please leave a comment. Seamus especially loves to hear how handsome he is (:
